Apiary Field Day –
Beeyard
Hands-On Experience
Most Saturday’s, following our meetings, we meet at a bee yard with the associations hives. (The time and location is confirmed at the meeting!)
Most of the time, we gather at 9:00 a.m. and go into the bee yard to inspect the association’s hives. We explain what is currently happening in the hives, show the stages of the bees and the nectar/honey/pollen and how to handle the honey bees properly. Throughout the year we will show you how to make splits, add queens, add supers, reduce colonies, and a lot more!! After the apiary field day you can join us for lunch, paid for by the association.
You will learn how to enter the hives, what is happening in the colonies, and depending on the season, the different maintenance and procedures we do to keep the colonies healthy, make increases and harvest honey.
Because of weather and time of year. The actual LOCATION of the bees and TIME will be ANNOUNCED at the meeting.
YOU MUST sign a waiver, wear long pants, long sleeves and closed toe shoes. This is a family-friendly event and kids (6 and older) are welcome. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
It is NOT a pet-friendly environment; all pets must be in a full coverage bee suit!
