New Business:

Moving the bees from the apiary for orange blossom honey production was discussed.

Bert Kelley suggested we try moving the bees to blueberries with citrus close by, while charging pollination fee and making honey at the same time. This was a great idea and will be considered in the future.

David Smith agreed to move the bees to citrus for $150.00 one way. David suggested we treat the bees for mites and disease before we move the bees so they are stronger. We decided to treat the bees for mites Saturday and follow up with disease treatment in 10 to 12 days.

Bert Kelley motioned to allow Charlie to make the decision to move the bees based on the appearance of the bees Saturday 10th of January. The motion was seconded by Marie Blanchett and approved by the attendants.

Jane raised the question: Is .10 / lbs fair price for extraction. That was considered fair.

Jane also informed the club of the cost of providing lunch after the work parties at the apiary. All felt it was good the club continued to pay for lunch for anyone who came to work. And this may act as incentive to come out and work and recruit more members.  So please do so.

Bert Kelley asked people to volunteer time during the State Fair at the beekeeping booth.  The dates are February 7th through the 18th.  The volunteer shifts are 9 AM to 4 PM and 4 PM to 9 PM.  He needs help February 5th to set up booth. He can be reached at 863-644-6944 and kelleysapiaries@aol.com . So please everyone sign up and promote our interest.

We briefly discussed the idea of having the Bee seminar again this year and most agreed it was important to have the seminar.  We are working on the date. One date was the weekend after Mothers Day. May 17th.  We discussed location. Bill Roberts suggested the Seffner office because of space. But the club liked it out at the Upper Tampa bay Park.  We will discuss this further at the February meeting. Be thinking how you can help with a committee.  Registration, food, Stations/ vendors, Park communication, setting up Todd Jamison to demonstrate the bees, and a whole bunch more. Please try to help out in someway. Sandy Kitts volunteered to head up the food committee.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30.

Next Meeting February 14, 2008 Jonathan Simkin will speak and provide refreshments.
